The term ‘cosmetic dentistry’ covers a wide range of procedures, all of which are available at Power Dental.

Cosmetic dentistry covers a variety of procedures and treatments. Usually when a patient comes in for a cosmetic dentistry consultation, the first thing to establish is what they’re trying to achieve.

Whitening

The majority of people I see would be happy to have whiter teeth. There are a few different types of whitening we do at Power Dental. The most popular choice now is the in-chair Phillips ZOOM! whitening.  This takes place in our practice in 1-2 hours and improves the colour of your teeth a lot in a short time.  As it is powerful ad fast it does make most people's teeth temporarily more sensitive, but that usually goes back to normal within a relatively short time. We also give you a set of whitening trays and some take home gel to sue for just a few days to finish off the treatment.

The second option for whitening is the take-home whitening kit, where we take moulds of your teeth and make special fitted mouth guards that fit over your teeth. Then we give you the gel to place in the moulds. For younger people these need to be worn for 30-60 minutes a day for 10-14 days.  For older adults we use a slow-release gel  for 14 nights.  The results for this method are also good, but takes more time.

The other method is the Colgate  Optic White Light up.  It is a take-home system which is milder and uses a paint and a light.  It is a good choice for people with extremely sensitive teeth who find themselves unable to manage the other 2 systems.  While it is less powerful than the other 2 options, it gives reasonably good results with minimal sensitivity.

Veneers

If your teeth are very stained, you may consider veneers. There are two types of veneers: porcelain veneers and composite veneers. The difference between porcelain and composite is the material used: porcelain is made in the lab, it doesn’t stain, it’s as close to your natural enamel as possible. Porcelain veneers are a little bit more expensive and it takes two appointments to be done. They look fantastic though! Composite veneers are a little less expensive, they’re done in the chair and you can expect to get about three to five years out of them before they start staining up from tea, coffee, generally from living really.

Orthodontics

Some patients main cosmetic problem is that their teeth are a little  or a lot crooked. In that case, orthodontics may be the easiest and most long-term option. There are two types of orthodontics; conventional braces, which is the metal brace with wires, or Invisalign, which is a system using plastic clear aligners that will move your teeth. These aligners work as braces, but are almost invisible.

It’s best to come into Power Dental for a consultation and we can talk to you about your individual cosmetic dentistry requirements and what results you would like to achieve.
