After using our PC-based Dental Practice software package for almost 30 years, its owners Henry Schein, decided to stop further Updating OASIS and put all its eggs in the “Cloud-based” basket and develop an online system called DENTALLY.
In May we moved over to Dentally and have been mostly pleased with the change. As patients at our practice you will notice a couple of changes:
- Before your appointment you will receive a text confirming your appointment (as usual) but also you may get one saying that you have 1 task to complete.
- Once you click on the link it will ask you to create an account. If you do that you can make/cancel/change appointments, fill in your medical history, and sign any estimates/permission forms. This means less work for the admin staff and is more thorough than the way we used to do things. However, if you do not want to make an account you do not have to. You can just call and make appointments and we can take down your medical history at our practice.
While no program is perfect there are significant advantages to Dentally:
- Less glitches since it is cloud-based, not PC-based, so Windows updates don’t upset the system (which they previously did almost every week)
- Safer since it is backed up to a distant secure server only. Previously all the information was on our PCs AND backed up to a secure server. If anyone were to hack into our computers at work there is now none of your data there to find.
- For us it helps in our mobile dentistry, as we can take x-rays and make notes while we are off-site (at Nursing Homes, for instance) rather than have to write it all down and then come back to the surgery and type it in later.
- No paper forms
So, please bear with us as we all get used to the new system, especially to our loyal patients who have been with us for many years. We look forward to it being a better experience for everyone who visits us at Power Dental!
